Jennie Might
by Sigrid Wynne-Evans     © June 2004

Jennie Might was born in southern California, and lived in various places in the US and in other countries while growing up. After High School, she learned how to train guard dogs. While she loved training the dogs for obedience and guard work, she found dealing with the owners a bit more challenging.

Jennie presently lives in central Texas with her husband and cat. She says that she has three day jobs. Jennie is a bead designer and author, a part time employee and teacher at a knitting and weaving store, and a homemaker.

Bead designing and writing bead pattern books is a career that Jennie says that chose her. She saw Suzanne Coopers designs online when she first got internet access in 1996. Jennie thought "I can do that!". So Jennie purchased Suzanne's books and started beading amulet bags.

Jennie has not had any formal art training, however she does treat herself to a class by Cynthia Rutledge every year. Suzanne Cooper, Bonnie Brooks, Frieda Bates, Margie Deeb, Elizabeth Harkins, Barb Elbe, Cynthia Rutledge and Nancy Susaneck are designers that inspire her. Jennie says that she creates things "when they ask to be made" and then lets them go. Her favorite designs are her gold split loom necklaces. She says they are traffic stopping in their sparkle, yet tasteful in design and execution.

Jennie started designing when she wanted a Halloween design of her black cat and a pumpkin. Since then, she has published books with bead patterns, and has joined bead-patterns.com. She especially likes Japanese designs because of their simplicity, balance and elegance.

You could say that Jennie's life philosophy is a reflection of her love of Japanese art. She says "I live everyday as a gift and don't limit myself by applying goals that may blind me to interesting opportunities in other mediums of creativity." She tries "to be the best being spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically I can be. To be more kind, loving, thoughtful, compassionate, learned, tolerant, patient, and healthy tomorrow than I am today. I am grateful for every day I have no matter what. I live for change and growth and challenges. My life is filled with peace and joy by choice. I love to be."
