Nikia Angel
Nikia Angel is a long time beader. She started playing with beads as a child. Pop-beads were one of her favorites. Later, she learned to bead on a loom, and strung beads while she was in college, and while she was a free spirited hippy soul beading for spare change.

Nikia has some wonderful patterns for sale on bead-patterns.com. My favorite is the Baroque Starz Necklace. It looks intricate, and I am sure that it is exquisite when worked up. Don't miss her famous Sparkly Wheels. This is a versatile pattern that can be used for so many projects.

Here is what Nikia says about herself and her love for beads: "I've always collected jewelry and consider myself to be a jewelry junky. In the mid 1980's I bought a beautiful tubular net necklace from Africa. After a couple of years of wearing it as often as I could, it broke. I wanted to fix it. I played at it and then decided I'd go get some beads and make myself a loom so I could do some beadwork." This was in Washington DC.

"Not long after that I moved from DC to New Mexico in the middle of nowhere! But in Albuquerque, 45 miles away I discovered a bead store and then looked at all the Native American beadwork everywhere. I was hooked. A couple of months later I happened to see a sign for a Bead Bazaar. I went in and omigawd! There were beads and beadwork everywhere. I was enchanted, enraptured, I wanted to make these wondrous things. I was so overwhelmed at that first show that all I bought was a basic beading book. After that I played around with various techniques, took classes, got involved in the New Mexico Bead Society and other beady events".

"Beading is my love, my obsession, and my 'other life'. I'll see a bead or a piece of jewelry and I'm lost in my bead-world all over again. It has helped me through a period in my life I refer to as 'The Dark Night of the Soul'. It has given me more pleasure than I could imagine. I've met so many wonderful people who are as obsessed as I am. Thank goodness we have each other."

"I manage a bead store in Albuquerque called Stone Mountain Bead Gallery and am co-owner of Buy the Kit.com. I spend my days surrounded by beads and that's how I like it. Beads truly make my world go round."
