The motivation for The Goddess came from an alternative religions magazine and exposure to Model Magic® in an extended creativity class. The few people I initially showed my goddesses to enthusiastically urged me to share them with a wider audience.
I contacted Beadwork Magazine and they were kind enough to allow me pages in their December 2003/January 2004 publication to describe the process. Bead & Button allowed me to teach the process at their show in Milwaukee in June 2004. Teaching the process is a lot of fun and it is fascinating to see everyone’s interpretation of the goddess body and the amazing variations possible when you start adding the color and textures of beadwork.
Since there is limited space in a magazine article to describe a technique, it is greatly expanded here. It includes directions for doing both the goddess body and descriptions of how approach doing the beadwork in gourd/peyote stitch, brick stitch, and right-angle-weave. I hope the gallery at the end gives you inspiration.
