This is a cool star I came up with when a friend added long bugle beads to the center of my spiral ornament and make an ornament cover with long bugle beads and spiraling colors. I took a technique from a picture in a Japanese book and used it to create this free standing ornament or sun catcher using the really long bugle beads I have hoarded for years! I admit it, I'm a bead hoarder. I have collected 25mm+ bugle beads since my dream catcher dangle days. They always made such smart looking fringes from the dream catchers I used to weave. Now I am re-purposing them for beautiful stars and I have them hanging in my windows since it's too early to hang them from my tree!
This ornament uses size 11 seed beads and long bugle beads. I made mine with 30mm bugles and it is 4 inches across. I think you could make it with 25-35mm bugles. I am going to make one with one color 25mm and one color 35mm to make a spiney star. I will add a photo here when I get that beaded up. I put 6mm fire polished beads on the tips of mine but just about any bead 5-6mm would be a possibility. Play with them and have fun!
